HOW "Please" GOT RECORDED:
While chillin at my neighbors house, Brad Murphree.... who I have nicknamed "Mr Awesome" since I first started working on music with him years back.... I told Brad about the 9 foot grand piano at my brother's church... and the acoustically perfect sanctuary that it sat in... Brad decided it was a good idea to meet me there one afternoon and record me playing some of my originals on it. He set up two mics and I went to tickling the ivories.

This song "Please" was one I had just recently finished writing... and it was heavy on my heart to record it. After laying down the piano part I went back to Brad's studio and we recorded the vocal & organ parts.
Then I had way too much fun putting my voice through a "psychedelic" guitar effect... and learning how to compose with a midi choir.

That same time I was starting to work with musician "Freddy Scott" who I had met while in the bathroom line at "CoffeeBean & TeaLeaf" in West Hollywood. Freddy stopped by Brad's studio and heard the song. He decided to lay down a bass line and after I handed him an empty shot glass he recorded that really fun slide part on the electric guitar. Then in walked Satoshi Noguchi- (who works more than the President) so everyone was astounded that he actually took time away from his busy engineering schedule for Hans Zimmer to add a sweet Moog part and give us tips on how to make 3 people's stomps and claps sound like an army (it involves army boots, a table spoon and a phonebook).

Years later Brad and I sat down to mix that mother... and after many hours of incredibly patient work on Brad's part while I changed my mind quite often we came up with the version of "Please" that you are hearing.

I hope you enjoy this collaborative effort! :-)

lyrics

I saw the child in need with such a hungry mouth to feed
They said "please lend a hand, it seems like you might understand me"
But my hands are tied there's nothing left, you know I've tried to do my best
And I'm not sure if what I did, could change the life of this young kid
when he said...

when you say..
Please... Help Me!
When you say
Please Help Me.

Justice! He's a person too, just tell me God what I should do
Speak out for the innocent, the poor as well are heaven sent
You know its true

when you say..
Please... Help Me!
Yeah you say
Please Help Me.

Oh you know you know you say
Please Help Please help
When you say
Please help Please

But I ain't no Savior,
And I ain't no Saint
You're lookin for something yeah
Looking for change change change!

Ohhhhh if you just believe
that you can be the change you want to see.

Please... Help Me!
Please Help Me
Oh why don't ya
Please Please Please
Help Me!

ohhhh ooo
They're looking for something...

<spoken>
Make me instrument..
Where there is hatred let me so love
Where there is doubt, faith
where there is despair, hope
where there is darkness, light
where there is sadness, joy
